100 Miles for the Youngest Spartan!

In Dean Karnazes' book 50/50, he describes a program in which school age children can do laps and earn "shoe charms" for their mileage. At the school here on Fort Benning, my two girls have been able to participate in the program. What a better way to entice kids to exercise then to offer them something colorful. Eww, eww ... bright colors. Personally, I like the pretty orange foot shape charms for my Mizuno's. Twice a week children can come outside and make quarter mile loops earning various colored shoe junk.

My oldest DD had been the first female to get to 100 miles and made 150 before she "graduated" and moved on to the middle school.

Today, on a brisk 37 F degree morning, the youngest member of the Spartan clan got her one hundred miles. In the 1st grade! At age 6! She makes it look so easy! Household 6 and I could have stayed in a warm vehicle and took the pictures with a zoom lens, but we were good parents and went with her.
Go Girl, Go!

Makes my recovery run of 7.11 miles yesterday look like what a "farmers' blow" leaves on the side of the road!
